The identification of more precise subgroups of breast cancer will ultimately enable us to determine treatment based on the patients' needs. By identifying a subgroup of patients who will not require long term adjuvant therapy we will improve patient quality of life and contribute to a better use of society's limited resources.
Denne tildelingen har gjort det mulig for oss å studere brystkreftsvulster i to velbeskrevet kohorter av kvinner i vår helseregion med langtidsoppfølging. Det siste året har vi arbeidet videre med å finne forklaringer for endringene i insidens og prognose over tid som vi demonstrert i studien publisert i 2016. Vårt hovedfokus er å identifisere kvinner med brystkreft som har en særlig god prognose. Det er mulig at disse kvinnene ikke har behov for omfattende postoperative behandlingsregimer som i seg selv har betydelige innflytelse på livskvalitet og på samfunnsøkonomi. Studier av ulike biomarkører som er assosiert med cellevekst og -proliferasjon ble startet i 2017 og ventes fullført i løpet av 2018.
