This project aims at understanding the fundamental biology underlying Vibrio cholerae infections and providing tools to decipher the population dynamics of bacterial pathogens in general. We presented the work during several workshops and seminars, as well as in direct interactions to researchers in the field.
The research project aims at understanding fundamental properties of V. cholerae infections (and other enteric pathogens). It is basic experimental research combined with theoretical modeling with the intent to collaborate with the participant Ulf Dahle from FHI. Together with him, we aim to translate our findings to improve contact tracing, outbreak investigations, safety limits for pathogen exposure and policy-making regarding vaccination strategies. User interaction with basic research is difficult and the transnational aspects of the project have not been realized yet; to a large part due to the closure of the animal facility.
User participation in this basic research project is difficult. We reached out to the general public by participating at the Forskningsdagene 2018 event, where we organized a very popular booth explaining basic concepts of population dynamics and bacterial lifestyle/population dynamics. This booth won the price for being the "beste stand på forskningstorget 2018".
