The PhD-project in question is on schedule. During 2009, three papers have been prepared and submitted to international journals. One paper is accepted, and one is expectedly accepted within a few weeks. The third paper is still under revision. The PhD thesis of Einar Waldeland is currently in preparation, and disputation is expected during 2010.Dose measurement using EPR detectors is a relevant method for estimating radiation doses from radiotherapy. EPR detectors are small, sensitive and may be used for patient dose measurements. In this project, fundamental research on these radiation dose detectors was combined with radiotherapy applications in a clinically relevant setting. The dose deposition from various particle beams for radiotherapy (including a proton therapy beam) was compared to that from conventional X-rays. Furthermore, the dose delivered from stereotactic radiosurgery was investigated. Three papers have been submitted to international journals in 2009: 1. E. Waldeland, E.O. Hole, B. Stenerlöw, E. Grusell, E. Sagstuen, E. Malinen. Radical formation in lithium formate EPR dosimeters following irradiation with protons and nitrogen ions. Journal: Radiation Research. 2. E. Waldeland, M. Hörling, E.O. Hole, E. Sagstuen, E. Malinen. Dosimetry of stereotactic radiosurgery using lithium formate EPR dosimeters. Journal: Physics in Medicine and Biology. 3. E. Waldeland, E.O. Hole, E. Sagstuen, E. Malinen. The energy dependence of lithium formate EPR dosimeters for medium energy X-rays. Journal: Radiation Protection Dosimetry. Paper 1 is already accepted for publication, while paper 2 is expectedly accepted within a few weeks. Paper 3 was recently submitted and is still under revision. In 2010, we are also working on a final paper together with collaborators at the Technical University of Denmark. Altogether, the PhD thesis of Einar Waldeland is to be comprised of 6 papers, and his PhD thesis is currently in preparation. We expect disputation within 2010, and project should thus be regarded as successful.
