Trond Michelsen hadde et års forskningsopphold i 2017-2018 ved University of Colorado, Anschutz Medical campus, Denver, USA,. In his post-doc work in Denver he focued on two areas. Firstly, by subfractionating the syncytial apical and basal membranes of placental samples obtained by the placental project in Oslo, he can relate the density of glucose transporters on both maternal and fetal side of placenta to placental uptake of glucose from maternal blood and to fetal consumption of glucose, in vivo in the human. This has never been done before. The first results from this project will be presented at the IFPA meeting I Manchester in August 2017. Secondly, the Oslo 4-vessel sample technique provides a novel approach to study proteins that specifically are produced by placenta by employing proteomics. This opens a unique opportunity to develop specific tests of placental functions by a simple blood sample from the mother. The first proteomics results were presented at Society of Reproduction in Orlando, FL, USA in March 2017 and awarded the President’s Presenters Award.
