Postdok kandidaten hadde forskningsopphold ved Bowles Center for Alcohol Studies, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill fra juni 2018 og frem til juli 2019. Der drev han med prosjektet, med hovedfokus på laboratoristudier om endring i immunologiske signalstoffer ved alkohol eksponering. Kandidaten ble eksponert til en veldig produktiv, og innovativ forskningsmiljø, hvor det ble mulighet til å lage egen forskningsspørsmål og eksperimenter inkludert dyreforsøk (etter gjeldende lokale regelverk). Det ble mange muligheter til forsterket forskningssamarbeid, ikke minst mulighet for forståelse av lokale kultur og forskningsstrategier/metoder. I tillegg til etablering av varig kontakt for videresamarbeid, ble det utviklet et forskningsprosjekt som ble søkt for finansiering gjennom Forskningsrådet og Helse SørOst i 2019.
Postdoktorstipendiaten hadde forskningsopphold i utlandet i 2018 (merk! ikke 2017, som skjemaet) Postdoktorstipendiaten begynte utenlandsopphold i USA (Bowles Center for Alcohol Studies, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill) som gjestforsker i juli 2018 og planlegger å være der i ett år. Stipendiaten involverer seg i ulike aspekter ved komorbide depresjon og alkoholismen. Under oppholdet driver stipendiaten hovedsakelig laboratoriske eksperimenter (in vitro) for å finne ut molekulære signaler som frigjøres av alkoholbruk i ulike mengder. Stipendiaten lærer seg nye laboratoriske metoder. Det er initiert samabeid med amerikanske national institute of health (NIH) for å kjøre analyser fra human sera.
