Postdoktorstipendiaten, Endre Grøvik, hadde et forskningsopphold ved Stanford University, California, USA, fra 1 april 2018 til 11 desember 2018, hvor han jobbet hos Prof. Greg Zaharchuk som er leder for ‘Center for Advanced Functional Neuroimaging’. Under dette forskningsoppholdet har Grøvik jobbet med å bruke dyp læring til å automatisk detektere og segmentere hjernemetastaser fra MR data. Dette arbeidet har resultert i en rekke konferansebidrag og artikkelutkast hvorav foreløpig en artikkel er publisert. I tillegg har han fulgt kurset ‘CS230 – Deep Learning’ som holdes av Prof. Andrew Ng. Dette har gitt Grøvik en dypere forståelse for dyp læring teknikker, samt evnen til å utvikle og bruke egne maskinlæringsalgoritmer. Oppholdet har også resultert i et etablert forskningssamarbeid mellom TREATMENT-prosjektet og gruppen til Prof. Zaharchuk, samt gruppen til Prof. Daniel Rubin, ‘Laboratory of Quantitative Imaging and Artificial Intelligence’, ved Stanford University. Etter oppholdet har Grøvik fortsattarbeidet som ble initiert under dette oppholdet til nytte for delprosjekter under TREATMENT-prosjektet som anvender kunstig intelligens. Dette er spesielt interessant med tanke på den unike databasen TREATMENT-prosjektet har opparbeidet seg med omfattende longitudinelle bildedata.
