Lungeavdelingen har i lengre tid hatt direkte kommunikasjon med pasientorganisasjoner, med regelmessige møter med Landsforeningen for Hjerte og Lungesyke (LHL), Norsk Sarkoidose forening, and Kreftforeningen. Disse kontaktene og kanalene blir også brukt for å formidle vår innsats og resultater i pasientrettet forskning. Vi har hatt regelmessige møter med brukrerepresentnter med kose fra LHL og det nasjonale kolsregisteret som er plassert i Bergen. I tillegg til møter med brukerrepresentanter har vi kommunisert forskningsresultater til deltakere i kohorten. Deltakerne i MikroKols har gitt et stort bidrag til foreningen, og vi har sendt nyhetsbrev ved omtrent årlige intervaller gjennom prosjektet.
