Våren 2024 gikk med til å fullføre og ferdigstille artikkel nr 2 i pHd løpet. Artikkelen “Surgery for intestinal injuries in very preterm infants: a Norwegian population-based study with a new approach to disease classification” ble publisert i BMJ Paediatrics Open i september 2024.

*Approved midway evaluation may 2023 *Taught nurses completing a Masters in advanced clinical nursing *Collected data for substudy 2 *Some results from substudy 2 were presented at “jENS 5th Congress of joint European Neonatal Societies” in Rome in august 2023 *Completed required scientific communication *NEC conference, UKThe first half of 2023 was spent collecting and analyzing data for substudy 2. In May I had my midway evaluation where I got good feedback & advice going forward with the remainder of my project. Taught nurses completing a Masters in advanced clinical nursing at Lovisenberg Diakonale Høgskole, 23/8 2023. Subject for the lecture was: Observation and evaluation of newborn infants with suspected necrotizing enterocolitis. The last half of 2023 has been spent completing paper 2: Surgery for acquired and congenital intestinal injuries in very preterm infants - a Norwegian population-based study. This paper is soon to be submitted. Some results from substudy 2 were presented at “jENS 5th Congress of joint European Neonatal Societies” in Rome in august 2023 as an oral poster presentation. I have gathered the required scientific communication points. (formidlingspoeng oppnådd). In November I attended the ESPGHAN MONOTHEMATIC CONFERENCE: NEC in Newcastle, UK.

*Jan-Jun 2022: 2022 HLTH6224 Research Methods, University of Southampton. Online course *Poster presentation, 10th International Conference on Clinical Neonatology 2022, Torino, Italy *Oral poster presentation, EAPS, Barcelona, October 2022 *Publication in The Journal of Pediatrics, October 2022.In january i enrolled in a 6 month online course at The University of Southampton. The course was titled "Research Methods" with a duration of 150 hrs (30 online course hours and 120 guided independent study hours) with a summative assessment/exam in June which I passed. In May I attended the 10th International Conference on Clinical Neonatology in Torino, Italy. I presented a poster titled; "Early empirical antibiotics and adverse clinical outcomes in very preterm infants – a nationwide study" which was based on results from subtudy 1 in PhD project. I presented the same poster, but orally, at the European Academy of Paediatric Societies in Barcelona, Spain, in October 2022. I completed my first article, Early Empirical Antibiotics and Adverse Clinical Outcomes in Infants Born Very Preterm: A Population-based Cohort. I was joint first author of this paper which was published in The Journal of Pediatrics in October 2022. From September to December 2022 I have travelled to the various NICUs in Norway where they perform paediatric bowel surgery som collect data for sub-study 2 of my project. Going forward I will start analyzing the collected data which will result in an article planned to be submitted in spring 2023.
2021
• Finalizing the manuscript for substudy 1 • Completed and passed the course " Epidemiologiske metoder og prinsipper" at UiB, 3 studypoints • Preparing a detailed questionnaire to obtain relevant information required in substudy 3In 2021 I have mainly focused on substudy 1 which entails data analysis, interpretation & drafting a manuscript. The manuscript is now at the finishing stages & we plan to submit for publication within the next month. Throughout this work I have gained knowledge of and experience at using SPSS. I completed the course "Epidemiologiske metoder og prinsipper" at UiB and passed the exam, obtaining 3 further studypoints. This was a six day long course with lectures & group work followed by a home exam. For substudy 3 I require clinical details from the bowel surgery included infants have undergone. I have prepared a detailed questionnaire/form for surgeons to fill out when reviewing files of included infants, ensuring that all relevant information is obtained easily, consistently & accurately. I've kept updated on relevant publications and have had regular ongoing tutoring and feedback from my mentor.

• Statistics course, spring 2020 UiS • Good Clinical Practice course, Stavanger University Hospital 05.02.2020 (6 hours) • Medmet 1 University of Bergen - 8 studypoints • Endnote course organized by Stavanger Univ Hosp library 14/9/20 • Questionnaire translation from english to norwegian to be used in substudy 3 • Webinar NEC 3-4/12/20 ESPGHANDuring this year I have focused on completing some of the compulsory courses required & have passed exams crediting me with 13 studypoints in total. I have passed the Medmet 1 course which is a basic course in Medical and Health Related Research. This was a two week long course with lectures, group work & presentations, followed by an online multiple choice examination & a written essay paper. I have also undertaken a one day course in good clincial practice (GCP) organised by the research departement at Stavanger University Hospital. I have familiarized myself with Endnote & completed a course organized by the library at Stavanger University Hospital. For substudy 1, we are in the process of analyzing the data, & have started writing our paper, with the aim of publishing this spring. For substudy 3 I have gotten approval of my translation of the PedsQL Gastrointetsinal Symtpoms Scales questionnaire from english to norwegian, & I am now in the testing phase & once this process is complete I will start distributing the questionnaires to participants in my research. ESPGHAN (The European Society for Paediatric Gastroenterology Hepatology and Nutrition) organised a 2 day webinar in November on Nectrotizing Enterocolitis where reasearchers & clinicians interested in NEC worldwide participated. This was a very useful conference which furthered my knowledge about NEC.
2019
The project was presented at the Nordic Neonatal Meeting in Helsinki, Finland in November 2019. The work of translating the questionnaires to be used in sub-study 3 is under way.Primary objective: To increase knowledge on risk factors, epidemiology and short- and long-term prognosis among very preterm infants with surgical NEC and/or bowel perforation in the neonatal period. Secondary objectives: 1. To identify whether duration of antibiotic exposure is associated with increased risk for NEC and/or death among vey preterm infants. 2. To quantify the "burden of NEC and/or bowel perforation" among VPIs in Sweden and Norway, using population-based data. 3. To collect long-term follow-up data in school age on quality of life, growth, development, nutritional status and persistent gastrointestinal symptoms among very preterm infants surviving surgery for NEC and/or bowel perforation in the neonatal period. The project was presented at the Nordic Neonatal Meeting in Helsinki, Finland in November 2019. This was a 15 minute oral presentation, with useful feedback from the audience. The work of translating the questionnaires to be used in sub-study 3 from english to norwegian is under way.
